Care home feasts on Burns night

Liz Meacher, Sue Lacey, Mary Hil­ton-Jones, Janelle Wil­liams and Pamela Arnold en­joy the tastes of Scot­land A CARE home was awash with Scot­tish tra­di­tions in cel­e­bra­tion of a fa­mous poet.

Chal­font Lodge, in Chal­font St Peter, held a feast to com­mem­o­rate the life of Robert Burns on Mon­day.

Staff at the home, in Den­ham Lane, read out Burns’ po­ems while bag­pipe mu­sic played in the back­ground.

Ac­tiv­i­ties co-or­di­na­tor Hay­ley Clark said: “We snacked on short­bread and fudge and washed it down with some Scotch whisky and ginger ale while hav­ing a talk on who Rob­bie Burns was.

“Our kitchen de­lighted us fur­ther by of­fer­ing hag­gis, sal­mon cooked in whisky and honey and cranachan (Scot­tish pud­ding) for desert.

“Hav­ing eaten and drank till they could no more, the res­i­dent’s set­tled down to watch the Eal­ing Broad­way clas­sic film Whisky Galore.”
