All the signals are phone coverage is still patchy
Neighbours refute claims Chilterns area has best service
MOBILE phone users have said the signal has not got any better despite networks saying they would improve coverage more than three years ago.
Chiltern district councillor David Meacock has campaigned since 2011 for the phone giants to improve the signal across the county.
Now people have called on providers again, following our article last week which showed statistics by OpenSignal deemed Chiltern as one of the best areas in the county for service.
He said the rankings are not representative as they use a system that only judges by people complaining about bad signal. If people do not complain it registers a good signal for the area.
Mr Meacock, of Layters Close, Chalfont St Peter, who works with musicians and runs a choir, said: “When I try and call musicians up I struggle to get a signal.
“On one occasion I got so annoyed I had to drive to Gerrards Cross High Street and sit there in my car making calls.
“We resort to waving our hands around like windmills just to get texts.”
Mr Meacock has called for providers to introduce a better system, but is yet to see a change.
“The system they use isn’t scientific at all.
“They need to put something in place to measure it properly,” he said.
“We also need to think
David Meacock about more masts. I know there is opposition, but if we complain about signal we need to think about it.
“We are paying contracts and getting nothing for it. That’s like going to a sweet shop and paying then walking out without your sweets.”
Neighbour and tradesman Bob Hatton, of Layters Close, said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been on other networks and it doesn’t change.
“I have to go outside for calls and then I’ll be talking to a customer and it cuts out. If you ring for a locksmith and get cut off, you just go to the next on the list, so I’d miss business.
“I’ve tried a booster box and that doesn’t make a difference.
“I’ve tried them all – Vodafone, O2, Orange. I ask in the shop, they reassure me and then I get home and it’s bad still.”
