NCC report offers hope to protest

A REPORT for the government which warns against ‘structural deterioration’ across the country has been seized upon by anti-HS2 campaigners.

The Natural Capital Committee ( NCC), which advises the government on the state of ‘natural capital’ such as clean air, clean water, food and recreation, has said action is urgently needed to reverse a ‘structural deterioration’ across the country.

Chiltern campaigners against the rail scheme say HS2 could be seen as part of the risk to the country’s future.

Commenting on the report, Chiltern District Council’s lead member against HS2 Nick Rose said: “This NCC report is particularly poignant as part of the Chilterns’ area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) is about to be ruined by the HS2 line if it goes ahead. The destruction of such a large section of the AONB would be unprecedented in the UK.”
