THERE were no surprises when Aylesbury Grammar School won the County U15 handball competition at Stoke Mandeville Stadium last week.

Aylesbury, the current national champions, won the boy’s category, while the Royal Latin School from Buckingham were victorious in the girls’ section.

More than 100 schoolchildren from all over Bucks took part in the contest and GB handball team captain Bobby White attended to inspire the students, saying many of them showed huge potential to progress in the sport.

Competition co-ordindator Sarah Simmons said: “This year’s competition built on the success of last year, and it’s clear to see that the schools involved have embraced the chance for their students to try an alternative sport.

“The standard of play has increased and there is some bright young talent. It was also fantastic we had more girls teams and the camaraderie between the schools was great to see.”
