Allsop off to a flyer in first of spring series
HYDE Heath’s Lucy Allsop was once again the star of the show for the Summit MTB Club at the first round of the Gorrick Spring Series.
Young riders from the Chilternbased club were out in force for the event, held at Saddleback Hill, near Camberley, fielding 10 riders across three age categories on a course that was dry, fast and technically challenging.
Eight-year-old Allsop, in a strong start to the season, was first home in the U11 girls category, while in the boys’ race, 10-year-old William Shield rode fantastically in his first ever race to claim fifth place.
He narrowly pipped team mate, Ed Campbell, also 10, into sixth, by just five seconds, while eightyear-olds Ben Donald and Alex Benger were 17th and 23rd respectively.
Josh Scott, from Chalfont St Giles, was unlucky to get a puncture during the first lap of the youth boys (15-16) race and the 16-year-old was unable to complete the circuit.
