Mountain biking skills course
YOUNG people can get more active at half term on a mountain biking skills course.
The session is organised for South Bucks District Council and funded by Sport England’s Sportivate programme, which encourages juniors and young adults to get involved in physical activity.
The first course will run from Monday, February 16 to Friday, February 20, from 10am to 12pm and will cost £6 per day.
The second course will be six weeks long, starting on Saturday, February 28 from 10am to 12pm and costing £24 for the whole course.
Both will be run at Hodgemoor Woods Bike Park, in Bottrells Lane, just off the A355 between Beaconsfield and Amersham.
Community sports manager for course organiser GLL, Joe Sammon, said: “We wanted to appeal to young people who might have stopped taking part in physical activity for a variety of reasons.
“Mountain biking is a great way for kids who don’t think of themselves as sporty to get some exercise and have fun.”
The techniques the course covers include off-road cornering, effective braking, wheel lifts and maintaining correct body position on the bike on different terrain.
Riders then put the skills together during timed laps to check their progress. Participants should bring bikes and helmets. To book, email joseph.sammon@GLL. org or call 01494 586 534.
