Top reception for young athletes
YOUNG GB athletes Heidi Long (rowing) and Sarah Collin (modern pentathlon) from Beaconsfield High School were invited to a Houses of Parliament reception last week.
The girls, who are sponsored by MyLotto24 through Sports Aid, were invited, along with 22 other athletes, to the event, hosted by John Leech MP (Culture, Media and Sports Select Committee).
They were taken on a tour of the House of Commons and sat in the public gallery for a debate, then taken to the terrace restaurant overlooking the Thames, where they met Beaconsfield MP Dominic Grieve and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.
Collin said: “It’s great to meet athletes who come from such different sports and learn about their experiences, and being in such an iconic place really made me feel proud to be able to represent my country.
“It was a privilege to be invited and meet with such inspirational people, especially Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.
Long added: “It was a truly inspiring and enjoyable experience.
“I loved spending time with the other athletes and talking to them about all of their experiences in their own sports.”
