Keep­ing their eyes on the river­flies

NA­TURE en­thu­si­asts spent the day learn­ing about life be­neath a river’s sur­face.

The Chilterns, Hert­ford­shire and Mid­dle­sex River­fly Hub or­gan­ised a River­fly Day at the River Chess at La­timer Park, in La­timer Road, La­timer, on Satur­day.

At­ten­dees learnt dis­cov­ered the im­por­tance of river­flies as in­di­ca­tors of the health of rivers.

The event was aimed at peo­ple al­ready mon­i­tor­ing river­flies and those who are new to the science and wanted to find out more.

The day in­cluded talks by a range of ex­perts in fresh­wa­ter ecol­ogy and prac­ti­cal ses­sions af­ter lunch, where peo­ple could try their hand at river­fly mon­i­tor­ing in the River Chess.
