FOR WELL-KNOWN comedian is making a ‘welcome’ return to a Bucks comedy club this month.
This month’s Chesham Comedy Club on Friday, February 27 will see the return of Arthur Smith, who last played at the club at Chesham United Football Club in Amy Lane in November 2013.
Arthur has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe since 1977 and he is still compering the long-running Hackney Empire New Act of the Year competition final.
He took over as narrator of the television series A Life of Grime after the death of John Peel and he was one of the Grumpy Old Men in the television series of that name. He also appeared in an episode of Red Dwarf.
He is a radio presenter on BBC Radio 4 programmes as Excess Baggage and Loose Ends and he also hosts Arthur Smith’s Comedy Club on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
One of the organisers Mark Rann said: “Arthur enjoyed himself so much at his last appearance that he was only too pleased to come back. He’s a true legend on the British comedy circuit, and we are very much looking forward to his return.”
Joining Arthur on the bill is compère Jarlath Regan, who is a regular headliner and compère on the comedy circuit. Jarlath has also made a string of television appearances on shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News and is the author of popular podcast An Irishman Abroad.
Also on the bill is President Obonjo Obonjo, a self-proclaimed dictator of the people’s Republic of Lafta!
Completing the line-up is David Jordan. With his entertaining brand of musical comedy, David was a big hit at his last Chesham Comedy Club appearance and went down a storm at the inaugural BURYFields festival.
Mr Rann added: “All in all, February 27 has the potential to be one of our best ever line-ups. The show is bound to sell out quickly.”
