Leafy lanterns light up half-term holiday
COLNE Valley Visitor Centre was busy on Monday, with 24 children and their parents enjoying Leafy Lantern Making.
Staff guided children, aged between four and 10, to collect dogwood leaves from the woods around the centre and then helped them weave the greenery into pyramidshaped lanterns.
Parents could choose between a glowstick and candle to illuminate the lantern, with most choosing the traditional option.
Visitor centre manager Sarah Hodgett was pleased with the attendance, saying: “It was a really good turnout despite the rain.”
The lantern making event cost £2 to attend and was one of a string of children’s activities, including bird feeding and a craft afternoon, taking place in Colne Valley Park over the half-term.
When asked how the children’s lanterns had turned out, Ms Hodgett said: “They’re looking leafy, they’re looking good.” IF WE have published anything that is factually inaccurate, please contact the Editor at marnie. firstname.lastname@example.org or at Buckinghamshire Advertiser, Trinity Mirror Southern, c/o Trinity Mirror Colour Print, St Albans Road, Watford, Herts WD24 7RG and, once verified, we will correct it as soon as possible.
