CHAL­FONT ST GILES: Lo­cal nov­el­ist Richard Walm­s­ley will be giv­ing a talk about Sa­lento, in Italy and how his three nov­els, all set in Puglia, were con­ceived.

The talk will be held on Tues­day next week from 7.30pm in the Gar­dens As­so­ci­a­tion Hall, School Lane.

Tick­ets cost £4 and are avail­able from the com­mu­nity li­brary.

MATHS STARS: Dr Cre­ber, direc­tor of stud­ies at St Mary’s School, Clare We­ston of Nunn Hay­ward, Mrs Car­ney, head of prep depart­ment and Simon Dodd of Nunn Hay­ward with pupils Iso­belle Fin­den-Crofts, Maina Abe, Sa­j­jal Mah­mood, Rhea Dhillon, Réneh Nanda, Ra­haani Mann, Mahima Sharma, Sim­ran Patil, Anoushka Sekhri, Holly Wil­liams, Cor­rie Hep­pel, Megan Atwell, Iso­bel Coombes-Aw-Yong and Leyla Gottschalk A BUSI­NESS has been work­ing with young­sters at a vil­lage school in or­der to help them im­prove their maths skills.

Nunn Hay­ward, a firm of char­tered ac­coun­tants in Sta­tion Road, Ger­rards Cross, pro­vided chil­dren at St Mary’s School with a Maths Achieve­ment Pro­gramme card last term set­ting tar­gets for com­plet­ing tasks in their men­tal arith­metic books by their maths teacher and for each tar­get met chil­dren were given stars to show achieve­ment and fill up their card.

Each morn­ing, chil­dren had time be­fore school to com­plete tasks to fill up their maths books and were also given the chance to at­tend vol­un­tary maths ses­sions at lunch time.

Ear­lier this month, a pre­sen­ta­tion as­sem­bly was held to re­ward the young­sters who took part for their ef­forts, with awards be­ing given out by Nunn Hay­ward part­ner Simon Dodd.
