Working party hoping for more parking restrictions
Group puts forward its suggestions for changes to current policy
INCREASED parking restrictions and lower speeds on village roads could be introduced this year.
Work has been undertaken by a working party on behalf of the parish council, in Gerrards Cross, to determine where problems are in the village and what changes need to be made.
been gathering information since July 2013 and was originally formed to address issues in East and West Common.
The group has since looked at the wider issues in other parts of the village and has had a number of meetings with Bucks County Council representatives, who would be able to make the necessary changes.
As well as introducing parking restrictions to East and West Common, the group has also recommended that enforcements are introduced in Layters Way, Bulstrode Way and Bentnick Close.
A figure of £16,414 has been agreed with the county council to make the changes, but the county council will first carry out another survey of people’s wishes before making the changes.
Ian Bayliss, chairman of the speeding and parking working group, said: “Although progress has been rather slow, we now have firm proposals agreed with Bucks County Council for parking restriction changes in West Common, East Common, Layters Way, Bulstrode Way and Bentnick Close.
“The next stage of the project will be in BCC’s hands and they will carry out another ‘official’ survey of residents’ wishes.
“When their approval has been received, the legal processes will start, followed by the implementation.”
The working group had also recommended the speed limit in West Common be changed from 30mph to 20mph, but was told this would not be realistically possible and that traffic on the road generally travels much lower than 30mph as it is.
The working party is planning to look into proposals from other areas of Gerrards Cross once the first stage of changes is under way.
