Old Town parking will be mayhem

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - OPINION -

In response to page five of the February 5 edition of the Beaconsfield Advertiser – ‘Full house expected at London End debate’. WELL done Advertiser for your coverage of this major Old Town development application.

On January 27 an Access Statement was finally published!

The two-storey office block proposed has 218 desks plus offices.

It says that 61 percent will drive, not walk, cycle, or bus. That’s 132 cars, but parking bays provided are 45, so will 87 park on the streets?

The Millbarn surgery will lose 12 parking bays and also its own street access.

So mobility scooters, mums with buggies, the infirm and disabled will compete with the office traffic through a single file narrow entrance without pavement as will the 68 surgery traffic – mayhem in the rush hour!

The car noise and pollution will affect all neighbours.

The two-storey office block will be some three metres from the bungalows in Malthouse Square to the rear, greatly cutting their daylight.

Beaconsfield has vacant office space and jobs and the Local Plan says we need much more than four affordable houses included here.

At last Thursday’s meeting, councillor Alan Waters invited the applicants to reapply but they declined and bemoaned lack of support from all 30 residents present!

It looks like overdevelopment to me.
