Town crier en­ter­tains au­di­ence

A TOWN crier en­thralled an au­di­ence with tales of the area he serves.

Bea­cons­field town crier Dick Smith spoke at the Probus Old Bea­cons­field club meet­ing on Fe­bru­ary 11.

Mem­bers gath­ered in the Fitzwilliams’ Cen­tre, in Wind­sor End, to lis­ten to Mr Smith, who, dressed in his robes, delved into his ex­pe­ri­ence as a town crier.

Club pres­i­dent Terry Scott said: “The au­di­ence was en­thralled by his rec­ol­lec­tions and ex­pe­ri­ences over many years. They were also moved by his sense of hu­mour. The talk was an oc­ca­sion to re­mem­ber.”

Guests gath­ered for lunch at the China Diner, in the Old Town af­ter the talk.

Probus Old Bea­cons­field is a club for re­tired and semi-re­tired busi­ness­men.

Mem­bers meet twice-monthly, on Wed­nes­day morn­ings, to lis­ten to a speaker.
