CUP WINNERS: Rocky Clark and Kat Marchant during a visit to Chiltern Hills Academy handful and the numbers grown with every week.

“There is so much positivity for the future of the women’s game. The World Cup win has proved to be really inspirational and helped us achieve the numbers. It has probably helped that the senior women’s team is doing so well here too.

“But it is not just about Chesham. We have been going into schools across the local area, and we have youngsters here today from all

have around Bucks. We’re doing our bit for the future of the women’s game in our little corner of the country.

“It’s so important to build on what was achieved last year.”

The pair have been involved with the coaching at Chesham, which is not restricted just to the women’s section as they help coach the men too, since 2010.

Clark, who lives locally in Amersham, answered an advert placed by the club for a new coach, then roped in Marchant, who was a team-mate of hers at Worcester Ladies. Clark, in fact, still plays for Worcester, while Marchant has retired.

Marchant said: “We both love it here and have never looked back. Since I retired I have been able to put all my energy into coaching, and what’s happening here is so important.

“There were quite a few retirements after we won the World Cup, and the development of the next generation is happening now – then you have to look at the next generation and the one after.

“We’re looking to build it up from the grass roots and bring players on from there, and the more girls we get involved the better.”

Meanwhile, Chesham’s senior women’s team could wrap up the RFUW National Challenge South East North One title on Sunday when they take on main challengers Cambridge.

The game kicks off at 2pm at the Chiltern Hills Academy and if Chesham win, not only will they be clearing a space in the trophy cabinet, but they will be one match further away from completing the season with a 100 per cent record.
