Provisional thumbs-up for new clubhouse
CHESHAM RFC have received initial planning approval for their proposed new clubhouse.
The club launched its campaign to build a permanent structure (pictured) last September, having voluntarily given up their base to make way for development at Chiltern Hills Academy two years ago.
The Stags are currently renting temporary accommodation, but the lack of changing facilities and hospitality space does not allow the club to provide the quality of coaching and skills development it is capable of to more than 1,000 members.
“I’m delighted with the news,” said club secretary Steve Morris. “We’ve worked tirelessly with all the stakeholders to make sure they are fully briefed and happy with our plans, including Chiltern Hills Academy, the RFU and local residents groups. This approval is an important step forward.”
The club is, however, still seeking sponsors to help make up the £150k shortfall of the £450k development costs not covered by grants.
“It’s a great chance for
local organisations to get involved,” added Morris. “We are a community club with over 300 members, including seniors, women’s teams, minis and juniors.
“Once you add in family members, that’s a great opportunity for a local organisation to increase their profile and aid the town in the development of a facility that Chesham can be proud of.”
