Take a shaker tin filled with ice and add 3/4 shot gin, 1/2 shot sugar syrup, 1/2 lemon juice. Shake, strain and pour into glass. Top-up with cham­pagne and gen­tly stir. Sim­ply re­place gin with vodka for a French 74 or with co­gnac for a French 90.
