RELAX: Win a luxury spa day for two in reader competition
Set amidst rolling green fields, Whittlebury Hall is attached to attractive grounds and a golf course. LAURA MOWAT and a friend enjoyed getting pampered at the spa
SET in the countryside near the world famous Silverstone Race Circuit, my friend Karina, and I were looking forward to enjoying the lap of luxury and relaxtion.
We were booked onto the escape and stay package, which offered the use of the heat and ice experience, leisure club facilities and a treatment (either a facial or a massage).
There was a wide range of facilities to choose from including a sauna, steam room, ice cave, foot spa and hydrotherapy pool.
After the body gets gradually hotter, the ice cave aims to eliminate toxins and is good for the body’s circulation.
My personal favourite was the water beds – tucked in a ‘whisper room’ where people could relax quietly.
The spa was spacious and comforting and with everyone milling around in their robes, had a very welcoming feel to it.
The facilities were very good, however there were too many people there for the experience to have been particularly serene. Although we did visit on a Saturday, which we were told was the busiest day.
I opted for a facial, which was a perfect finish to an afternoon spent relaxing at the spa.
To work up an appetite for the three course meal in the Astons restaurant in the evening, we hit the gym. It was as good, if not better than any other gym I have been to with a variety of cardio and weight machines.
The food did not disappoint us at all - offering a variety including slow cooked duck, brie and red onion tart and some delicious sweets to finish with.
We found the staff to be very polite and helpful, the food to be lovely and the room was spacious too.
If you are in need of a pamper and an escape, I would recommend the hotel - maybe just go mid week so there are fewer people.
