Stephens celebrates double at league finals
THERE was a double triumph for RAFA Club’s Tony Stephens at the Wycombe & Amersham Darts Club League finals night last Friday.
Having teamed up with Dan Anstiss to win the pairs competition, Stephens, who last won the singles competition 12 years ago, ended his long wait for a repeat win by landing that trophy too.
Anstiss and Stephens beat Totteridge SC’s Pat O’Reilly and Leigh Ross in the semis of the pairs before triumphing 2-0 over Wooburn pair Simon White and Leigh Birch in the final.
In the singles, Anstiss was knocked out by John Beattie (Hazlemere), who then lost in the semis to Rob Brereton (Wooburn Club), who had beaten Dave Schreiber in the last eight.
Stephen reached the final by beating Dan Franzen (Wooburn Cub) and Herbi Marshall ( RAFA Club), where he lifted the trophy with an impressive 3-1 win over Brereton.
In the Secretaries Cup, meanwhile, O’Reilly beat Andy Long (Wooburn Club) in the semi final before seeing off Mick Carlton (Cressex CC E) 2-0 in the final.
This follows wins for Totteridge and Holmer Green Legion C in the team competition finals night the previous week.
Totteridge won the Challenge Cup after beating Wooburn Club 5-1 in the final, while the Bowl Competition final went the way of the form book as Holmer beat Winchmore Hill CC 5-3.
