Girls’ double delight
CHAMPS: Chesham United U14 girls THERE was double delight for Chesham United girls at the weekend when both their U12s and U14s wrapped up the league with double headers.
The U14s beat Barton Rovers by the only goal of an evenly matched first game in which Barton had chances but could not breach Erin McManus’ defence, while tireless work from Holly Fitzgerald at the other end finally got just rewards when she looped her shot over the keeper for the winner.
The second match saw a soft handball decision gift Barton a penalty, but the kick hit the cross bar and Chesham made the most of their let-off when Katie Bayles gobbled up the rebound after a shot from Fitzgerald was spilled. Neat work by Bayles and Millie Boon then set up Aoife Hanling for a second to secure the game and the title after the break.
The U12s, meanwhile, wrapped up their silverware with an emphatic 3-0 win over Great Horwood following a nail-biting goalless draw in the first game, in which Amelie Baker was player of the match.
Those honours went to two-goal hero Hannah Warren in the second game, with Francesca Laine grabbing the other goal.
On Saturday, the U15s take centre stage with their Combination League Cup final against Crendon Corinthians at Chalfont St. Peter FC, kicking off at 10.30am.
