YOUNG actors are raising funds so that they can perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Drama students from Amersham School, Stanley Hill, will perform at the esteemed event in August in a play called Secrets Of Us.

The play covers the issues of body image, bullying, teenage pregnancy and online grooming.

Playwright Jess Walters, who is working with the young actors, said: “I wrote the play specifically for them – work-shopping their ideas and incorporating multimedia. The play investigates the complexities of adolescence and coming of age in a digital world, particularly the dangers of grooming.”

As well as rehearsing twice a week, the students are working hard to raise the £14,200 it will cost to stage their play at the prestigious event. This includes venue hire, technical equipment and advertising costs, along with coach travel and accommodation for the week.

They have already raised more than £4,000 through jumble sales, cake sales, bingo nights, Amersham Round Table’s Santa Sleigh collection at Christmas and a recent sponsored 12-hour rehearsal.

Now they are hoping to find some backers in the local community.

Drama teacher Sam Mitchell said: “The success of Edinburgh 2013 and the passion it inspired led to Jess and I collaborating over the last two years.

“We wanted to be able to offer this experience again to a new group of young determined up and coming actors, technicians, film makers directors.

“These talented young people are all going above and beyond to make Secrets Of Us a brilliant and engaging production.

“However, an undertaking such as this has large financial implications and this is where I hope people will be able to help in some way, as every little bit will help make this happen.”

Individuals and companies making a significant donation will receive free tickets to the show and a credit in the programme and any press coverage and publicity.
