Keep our hard working councillor

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - OPINION -

IT IS TIME for our local elections again, Karen Dickson has just completed her first four years as a councillor for the central ward as an independent and we are urging you to turn up and vote for Karen once more.

We have known Karen, her husband and two children since 2003. She arrived from South Africa in that year.

We have a very hard worker in our midst in Karen, she has helped open up our closed library, helped run consultations on Newlands Park and Holy Cross Convent, she is on the CSP youth committee and many more. We cannot list them all.

Karen is an asset to us, so please vote for Karen again. We will never find another person so dedicated, she must be our voice in Chalfont St Peter.

standing.

Would it not be fair to have at least two prospective councillors as a minimum to fight for each seat? That way all the residents of Chalfont St Peter would have the opportunity to vote if they so wished to.

Why, also, is someone who doesn’t live in a village ward potentially able have a seat and be able to make decisions about the village when local residents have to fight for the right to be elected to sit on their parish council?

At the same time, is it also fair that a councillor who lives outside of a village can make decisions about it when only those who live in the parish can speak at parish council meetings?

I hope that everyone who has the opportunity to vote in the parish elections today does so, unlike myself and others who do not have the opportunity to vote!

So come on folks, just this once, put your political rosette to one side – it really won’t hurt – and vote for a candidate who really does care for the place we live and the people who live there.
