Can’t we put party pol­i­tics aside?

COUN­CIL­LOR Allen’s let­ter re in­de­pen­dents (April 16) makes a re­ally im­por­tant point – we need elected rep­re­sen­ta­tives who are there be­cause of their wish to serve the peo­ple they rep­re­sent, not just be­cause they hap­pen to be a po­lit­i­cal nom­i­nee.

Coun­cil­lor Allen fo­cused on parish coun­cils but the point is just as valid fur­ther up the elec­toral scale.

We have an ab­so­lutely clas­sic ex­am­ple in the forth­com­ing South Bucks Dis­trict Coun­cil elec­tion.

Chris Brown, chair­man of Ger­rards Cross Parish Coun­cil is stand­ing.
