Get­ting cre­ative with flow­ers for fes­ti­val

Sum­mer event to be held at St Mary’s Church

A ‘SPEC­TAC­U­LAR’ flower fes­ti­val will brighten a church for a week­end this sum­mer.

There will be a flower fes­ti­val at St Mary’s Church, Church Street in Old Amer­sham in June.

The fes­ti­val hap­pens ev­ery five years and the theme this year is Let There Be Light.

Or­gan­iser, Sharon Thomas, said: “Flower ar­range­ments are about be­ing cre­ative, it is fun, it is ther­a­peu­tic, it is very calm­ing and for us to be in­volved in the flower ar­range­ments here at the church means that we have got to know dif­fer­ent mem­bers of the con­gre­ga­tion.”

She added: “There will be dif­fer­ent de­signs on show at the fes­ti­val, my own will be quite wacky.”

An­other of the or­gan­is­ers of the fes­ti­val, Jo Cold­ham, won bronze in flower ar­rang­ing at the Chelsea Flower Show last year. The church, which was once vis­ited by Oliver Cromwell, will be decked with dif­fer­ent flower ar­range­ment de­signs.

There will be ar­range­ments that are 10 foot high, some suspended from the ceil­ing.

Mrs Cold­ham said: “The de­signs will in­clude con­tem­po­rary ones, there will be a va­ri­ety.”

Be­sides the dif­fer­ent flower ar­range­ments at the fes­ti­val, there will be a raf­fle, with prizes that have been do­nated by lo­cal busi­nesses.
