Getting creative with flowers for festival
Summer event to be held at St Mary’s Church
A ‘SPECTACULAR’ flower festival will brighten a church for a weekend this summer.
There will be a flower festival at St Mary’s Church, Church Street in Old Amersham in June.
The festival happens every five years and the theme this year is Let There Be Light.
Organiser, Sharon Thomas, said: “Flower arrangements are about being creative, it is fun, it is therapeutic, it is very calming and for us to be involved in the flower arrangements here at the church means that we have got to know different members of the congregation.”
She added: “There will be different designs on show at the festival, my own will be quite wacky.”
Another of the organisers of the festival, Jo Coldham, won bronze in flower arranging at the Chelsea Flower Show last year. The church, which was once visited by Oliver Cromwell, will be decked with different flower arrangement designs.
There will be arrangements that are 10 foot high, some suspended from the ceiling.
Mrs Coldham said: “The designs will include contemporary ones, there will be a variety.”
Besides the different flower arrangements at the festival, there will be a raffle, with prizes that have been donated by local businesses.
Organiser, Jo Wilson, said: “The festival is based on the light as we wanted to raise funds for macular
