KOOKBURRA MID BUCKS LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Challoners Hawridge & Cholesbury 153 all out

154-4 Neil Jones (3-12), ripped through their middle order, with support from Charlie Barker (2-6) and Mohammed Rifai (1-24).

A late burst from Challoners veteran Howard Chamberlain (25no) saw them to 153 all out in the last of their 40 overs, but it would prove to be not enough, despite Hawridge’s reply getting off to the worst possible start by losing Rifai, last year’s star batsman, to the very first ball of their innings.

After that dream start, Challoners’ opening bowlers Asghar Mahmood and Heinz Richardson kept a tight hold on the scoring rate, but wickets failed to materialise. At 10 overs into their innings, Hawridge were 17-1, and at 20 they were 49-1.

Steve White (39) and Matthew Rutt (62 no) rebuilt slowly at first in the face of some quality accurate bowling, but opened up later on to put on a partnership of 83, before Akram (46) arrived to attack the bowling and added 67 with Rutt to

Despite a late squeeze on the scoring, Steve Drane scored the winning runs with seven balls left to complete a six-wicket win, with Rutt finishing unbeaten on 62.

The pick of the Challoners bowlers was Darrin Charlton with 3-48.
