Men get bragging rights

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

THE men won the battle of the sexes in Gerrards Cross Bowls Club’s Ladies versus Gents challenge match – but only with a little help from the ladies.

With the gents team short, the ladies lent them Shirley Murrell and Joyce Leeson, who helped the men to victory.

It completed a good week for the men, who travelled to Bassetsbury Manor and won all four triples, with Bob Leeson, Tim Coles and David Grieve top-scoring by 16 shots, while 11 club members were invited for county trials for selection to Bucks’ Middleton Cup team.

This followed a 90-60 win at Richings Park, in which the top triple was Marjorie Wane, Denis Ward and Ray Merry, but a first defeat of the season came at the hands of Princes Risborough, losing by 110-76, despite a top rink from Susan Oldroyd, Tim Coles and Chris Poole.
