CHE­SHAM Bowls Club took a slen­der lead into the sec­ond leg of their Benev­o­lent Cup first round tie against High Wy­combe.

De­spite win­ning 90-81 on Sun­day, with a top rink of 20-8 com­ing from Ge­orge Perry, Jayne Den­ham, Colin Par­sons and cap­tain Trevor Bate­man, Che­sham will have more hard work to do in the sec­ond leg in July.

High Wy­combe gained a mod­icum of re­venge with a 73-67 de­feat of Che­sham’s ladies, in which Mar­garet Den­ham, Tri­cia Par­sons and He­len Fillery top scored 34-11 for the los­ing side, but the ladies did see off Princes Ris­bor­ough 51-42, with a top rink win of 20-10 com­ing from Coral Sills, Fay Holmes and Terri Keen.

There was also a nar­row 77-71 de­feat at Hemel Hemp­stead for Che­sham’s men, de­spite the best ef­forts of Dave Hobbs, Lawrie Smethurst, Mike Bai­ley and Ge­off Den­ham, who won their rink 27-11.
