Nick takes on head for Nepal ap­peal

GAME ON: Head teacher Terry Ayres with head boy Nick Web­ber A SCHOOL ral­lied round to raise money for the cri­sis in Nepal by hold­ing a ta­ble ten­nis chal­lenge.

Thorpe House School, in Ger­rards Cross, de­cided to hold the event fol­low­ing the earth­quakes in the coun­try.

Head boy Nick Web­ber de­cided to chal­lenge the school’s head mas­ter Terry Ayres to a ta­ble ten­nis match on Fri­day, May 8 to raise cash for the re­lief chal­lenge.

There were two matches, one for spec­ta­tors from the se­nior school, and one for pre-prep.

Jan Macmil­lan, teacher in charge of char­ity events at the school, said: “Fri­day’s event was a great suc­cess. Boys and staff joined Nick and Mr Ayres in the gym and do­nated gen­er­ously.

“Ad­di­tional funds were raised by the sale of drinks, sweets, cakes and crisps all kindly do­nated by Nick’s mum.

“One of our year fives, Fred­die Hay­wood, even made some de­li­cious gin­ger bis­cuits in the shape of a ta­ble ten­nis bat and ball.”

Mr Ayres was beaten in both matches, but a to­tal of £500 was raised for the fund.
