Allsop crowned champ after Reading win
HYDE Heath mountain bike racer Lucy Allsop was crowned Southern Region U11 champion after storming to victory on Saturday.
The nine-year-old MTB Summit rider took the lead in the girls’ race from the start and finished an impressive two minutes, 41 seconds ahead of her nearest rival at the Southern Region XC MTB Championships in Reading.
Team-mate Alex Benger, also nine, finished ninth in the boys race, while Lucy’s younger sibling Katie, five, held onto third spot in the U9 girls race right up until the final stages, when she was just pipped to the line by Gracie Fox of Frog Bikes.
The U13 boys saw more strong and gutsy rides from Amersham’s William Shield and Ed Campbell both 11, competing over one full lap of the highly technical senior course.
