All­sop crowned champ af­ter Read­ing win

HYDE Heath moun­tain bike racer Lucy All­sop was crowned South­ern Re­gion U11 cham­pion af­ter storm­ing to victory on Satur­day.

The nine-year-old MTB Sum­mit rider took the lead in the girls’ race from the start and fin­ished an im­pres­sive two min­utes, 41 sec­onds ahead of her near­est ri­val at the South­ern Re­gion XC MTB Cham­pi­onships in Read­ing.

Team-mate Alex Benger, also nine, fin­ished ninth in the boys race, while Lucy’s younger sib­ling Katie, five, held onto third spot in the U9 girls race right up un­til the fi­nal stages, when she was just pipped to the line by Gra­cie Fox of Frog Bikes.

The U13 boys saw more strong and gutsy rides from Amer­sham’s Wil­liam Shield and Ed Camp­bell both 11, com­pet­ing over one full lap of the highly tech­ni­cal se­nior course.
