Landlord Aidan McCarthy said: “We’re very pleased to be nominated. I think what makes us great is we have great drinks, we have great food and the customers are all really nice, they’re all the community type. Lots of people know each other and get on well, we’re a good hub for the local area.
“We also host beer festivals and we have events for everyone.
“That’s one thing about The Crown, we welcome everyone, we don’t have a particular crowd. We have everyone from families to youngsters.
“We’re also in a great location, especially in the summer.”
Mr McCarthy thinks it is important people support their local pubs. Landlord Aidan McCarthy, inset, and with Alistair Clegg at the Lay Hill Beer Festival
He added: “They’re a great place to meet people and to go and have social events and dinners.
“I think without having pubs in the area, people are missing a great opportunity to meet people. People come here and have their own events, mothers have meetings here, we’re just a general social hub. It’d definitely be a shame if pubs didn’t exist, it’s worrying with so many closing.”

The pub also joins forc forces with neighbouring venue The Swan to put on a free three-day beer and music festival over the August bank holiday weekend.
Thousands of people are expected to flock to the 10th Ley Hill Beer and Music Festival taking place on Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31.
