Mike Bartlett took us to St Petersburg at our April meeting, telling us the history of the Amber Room, and showing slides of the astonishing reconstruction completed in 2003 in the Catherine Palace.
The description of the Amber Room itself and of St Petersburg made many think that this should be our next holiday destination!
Members attended the Annual Council Meeting in Aylesbury and were inspired by Double Winter Paralympian Anna Turney’s story.
Our group meeting took place on the following evening, hosted by Great Missenden at Missenden Abbey.
The meeting was very well attended and there was an excellent presentation by Eva on the history of the abbey.
And on April 28 a few of us went to Ivinghoe to see the handing over of the WI Centenary Baton to Bedfordshire Federation.
May will be our Resolution Meeting, this will focus on the assessment of need in long-term nursing and personal care and the results of our vote will be taken to the NFWI Centenary AGM at the Royal Albert Hall on June 4.
