People urged to help add to £600k raised so far by district group
A COUPLE who are part of a 12 person fundraising committee that has raised £570,000 for charity are calling for more volunteers to help get involved.
Liz King, from Chalfont St Peter, has been involved with Macmillan Cancer Support’s Gerrards Cross and District Fundraising Group since 1994, and her husband Dave since 2014.
Mrs King, one of the original founders and who was recently announced as chairman of the committee, said: “I’m looking for more volunteers.
“I’m looking for people who will come on board and help us.”
They both said that while it was fun to do fundraising events, the current team they have is just not large enough for the work they want to carry out.
Mr King said: “We’re still looking for people to come and talk to us, to become part of our team.”
The couple said the committee needed a bigger fundraising team after having organised two fundraising events in the past six months.
She added: “In order to keep running the fundraising events we need people, ladies and gentlemen, to come and help our event team.”
Mr King said: “There’s a message actually. It’s hard work, but we do have fun doing it.”

Mrs King said: “I’m sure that somewhere out in the community there are mums or dads with a bit of spare time on their hands who have who have done a bit of events management or have got some secretarial skills.”
The group, which is one of the most successful cancer support fundraising groups in Bucks, celebrates its 21st anniversary this year and has raised more than £570,000 since 1994 through balls, raffles and other fundraising events.
Mrs King said: “It costs Macmillan £27 per hour to fund a nurse. What I want to do is fund as many of these hours as possible.”
