Sharing their love for preserving the river
HUSBAND and wife team Bob and Cheryll Older of Chalfont St Peter who have worked hard to preserve a river have been put forward for the Environmental Project category.
They work with schools, businesses and other community groups to encourage the preservation of the River Misbourne, which flows through Bucks.
The Misbourne is a chalk stream, a globally rare and threatened habitat and is identified by the UK biodiversity steering group as a key priority habitat.
Bob and Cheryll have made it their business for several years to maintain its health, which has also helped flora and fauna.
They have been nominated by Erica Neustadt of the Change for Chalfont Group, who said: “Bob and Cheryll regularly organise working parties to clear the banks, keep the flow going and to monitor the wildlife which is supported by it. They collect data, engage with local schools, youth groups and local businesses, and co-ordinate with the Chiltern Society and the Environment Agency in their efforts to look after the river.
“It is true to say that they have worked tirelessly and very successfully, and not only have they kept the river in good nick, but they have also contributed enormously to the community spirit in the Chalfonts.”
