Barber’s a cut above the rest in Lewis Cup
JOHN BARBER came out on top as Amersham Bowls Club’s members competed for the Lewis Cup on Saturday.
Barber saw off all-comers, including Linda English in the final, to get his hands on the silverware.
Team-wise though there was no joy for Amersham 24 hours later in their Three Counties League clash away to Harefield.
The visitors went down 97-80 despite winning two of the five rinks, an improvement on the reverse fixture in which they were whitewashed.
Their top rink comprised the quartet of Jenny Brooks, Peter Bray, Ged Putt and Anne Begley.
In other action this week, Amersham beat Kitcheners in a five mixed triples match despite winning only two rinks.
Their victory owed much to a remarkable 31-2 success for the trio of Valerie Newton, in her first match for the club, David Balderson and Kevin Dwyer.
However, the three triples match at Hemel was lost 52-43.
