Hotel offers all mod cons for bugs and insects

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SCHOOL REPORT -

FIFTEEN sixth formers spent a morning in the woods getting their hands dirty and building bug hotels.

The students from Stony Dean School, Orchard End Avenue in Amersham took part in a In Bloom bug hotel challenge.

Organiser Steve Catanach said: “We made a small clearing on the forest floor before laying the foundations of the hotel. We then divided into two groups with a challenge to build the best bug hotel.”

The groups used bricks, hedge clippings and branches to make the hotels, which will support a wide range of wildlife including moss, fungi and insects. The bug hotel will also attract small mammals, reptiles and birds.

Mr Catanach added: “The boys really enjoyed the challenge and loved getting their hands dirty.”

ROOM FOR ALL: Stony Dean School students; Charlie Orchard, Ben Oldfield and Oli Hibbert
