Brownies want to help be the best
A GROUP of Brownies gave their village a spruce up ahead of a bid to win Gerrards Cross the Best Kept Village title.
AGROUP of Brownies got into the community spirit by helping to clear up a common in a bid for their village to win a prestigious prize.
The Fifth Gerrards Cross Brownies went along to East Common on Monday to carry out a litter pick there. The group scoured the common, picking up discarded rubbish and disposing of it in order to make the area as tidy as possible.
Later this month, Gerrards Cross will be marked on its presentation when judging for the annual Best Kept Village competition takes place.
It is the first time that Gerrards Cross has entered the contest in recent years, and since Christmas, work has been taking place to make the area as presentable as possible in order to give the village the best chance of landing the prize.
Community groups have been encouraged to come forward and to get involved in helping the village win by lending a hand in ensuring the village looks its best.
Parish councillor Mike Lawson said: “We are really grateful to the Brownies for coming along and helping out.
“Their work will make a big difference to us. The commons are an important part of the village and we need them to look as attractive as they can, so this will be a big help to us.”
Last month, a working party from Waitrose supermarket helped to clean footpaths in Station Road and Packhorse Roads as part of the Best Kept Village bids.
Gerrards Cross scouts were also set to lend a hand in clearing up the commons on Wednesday after the Advertiser had gone to press. The parish council has given its thanks to everyone who has helped out so far and is now asking people in Gerrards Cross to make sure that the village is as tidy as possible this month when judging takes place.
The winner of the contest will be announced later this year.
