Nominations for sport ‘Oscars’
NOMINATIONS are now open for the prestigious awards that reward the people who make grass-roots sport happen in Bucks.
The 10th annual Bucks and MK Sport Awards will be held later this year, and the public is being urged to help organisers identify the individuals and organisations to be honoured.
Chairman of Leap, the county sport and activity partnership which co-ordinates the event, Roger Fennemore, said: “This is the Bucks and MK sporting version of the Oscars, with the message being to recognise the people behind the people in sport – all the volunteers who make things happen behind the scenes. We want to reward the coaches, the referees, the club officials and all the other dedicated heroes who work tirelessly all year round purely for the love of their sport.”
Last year’s awards ceremony was attended by more than 200 people at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre after a record number of nominations. The event was hosted by Paralympic gold medal rower Naomi Riches and former England hockey player Roger Dakin.
This year’s event will be held on December 4 at the same venue.
Mr Fennemore added: “Last year was fantastic, but we want to do even better this time. We have begun the nomination process a bit earlier this year to give as many people as possible the chance to join in, but I’d urge them to act fast because the deadline will be upon us before we all know it.”
The categories for awards will be the same as last year: Active Workplace of the Year; Club of the Year; Project of the Year; School of the Year; Terry Cook Unsung Hero of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Young Leader of the Year; Community Coach of the Year; Performance Coach of the Year.
Nominations officially opened on Monday, June 1, and will end on Monday, September 14.
