A head for tu­ition helped win last year

LAST year Umar As­lam had great suc­cess in the Pride of Bucks awards win­ning the En­tre­pre­neur of the Year cat­e­gory.

This year he is nom­i­nated again in the Busi­ness per­son/ Em­ployee of the Year cat­e­gory, spon­sored by BP Collins.

Mr As­lam started his own busi­ness – Ahead Tu­ition – af­ter he was made re­dun­dant and the com­pany has gone from suc­cess to suc­cess.

He ini­tially started by tu­tor­ing stu­dents for their GCSE science and maths ex­ams.

That was such a suc­cess, he launched work­shops and be­gan speak­ing to lo­cal schools. He also launched hol­i­day study camps and added English to the list of sub­jects he of­fered.

He was nom­i­nated last year as an ex­am­ple of some­one who re­fused to be­come dis­heart­ened af­ter he lost his job.

This year’s nom­i­na­tion form com­mended Mr As­lam for the great progress his busi­ness has made and the num­ber of stu­dents who have ben­e­fit­ted.
