‘Invaluable’ Lynda praised by Hearing Dogs charity
Work of active fundraiser in the spotlight during special week
A HEARING dog charity has chosen to say thank you to an ‘invaluable’ volunteer as it celebrates National Volunteers Week.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has highlighted the work of Lynda McGregor from Amersham.
Mrs McGregor, of Hazell Park, in Amersham, is a volunteer puppy socialiser for the charity and looks after hearing dog puppies in her own home from the age of eight weeks up until 12 to 14 months.
Volunteering manager for the charity, Victoria Leedham, said: “Lynda’s commitment to Hearing Dogs over the years has been invaluable. Not only has she given up her time to raise and train four puppies, but she has also been an active fundraiser for the charity.
“Lynda has given many engaging talks about her experience as a puppy socialiser, and in 2012 she chose Hearing Dogs as the designated charity of the year during her tenure as chairperson of Amersham Townswomen’s Guild.
“We’d like to thank Lynda and all of our dedicated volunteers in Buckinghamshire for their hard work and commitment.
“Without our network of volunteers we simply wouldn’t be able to continue our life-changing work to provide hearing dogs to help deaf people.”
This puppy socialising stage is a vital part of a hearing dog puppy’s training, before they are then returned to the Charity’s training centre in Saunderton for a bespoke sound work training course. Each qualified hearing dog will then be partnered with a severely or profoundly deaf person.
Mrs McGregor said: “I love dogs and to be part of this amazing charity that helps people to change their lives is just the most wonderful thing to do.
“I have been volunteering for five years and it has not only changed the lives of deaf people, but it has changed my life as well.”
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a Buckinghamshire based charity that offers lifechanging support for deaf people by training dogs to alert their owners to important sounds such as the doorbell, morning alarm clock and fire alarm.
