McCarthy’s third spot

CHILTERN Har­ri­ers U20 ath­lete James McCarthy came third in his age group at the Ju­nior Bri­tish Ath­let­ics One Mile Road Cham­pi­onships – clock­ing 4.21 mins.

The same week­end saw Ali Young fin­ish as sixth woman in the West­min­ster Mile (5.38), Nick Marsh com­plete the Bupa Lon­don 10,0000 000 i in 42 42.16,16 and Tom Pow­ell suc­cess­fully tackle the 87.7km Com­rades Ul­tra Marathon in South Africa in 11.31.37.

The pre­vi­ous week­end, Neil Brown (pic­tured) took part in his first ever marathon, com­plet­ing the Arun River race in 5.08.32, while Mike Tur­ney made a strong re­turn to form in the Mar­low Five with 32.18, while Bar­bara Ralph (36.53) fin­ished first in her VW60 age cat­e­gory,

First Har­rier home at the Prest­wood 10k was Grant Whi­taker in 42.46, fol­lowed by Kate Loach, who was third woman and first in the VW50 cat­e­gory. Steve Field was first VM60, while David Holmes clocked 1.55.24 in the Run Hack­ney Half Marathon. Fa­ther-and-son duo Al­lan and An­drew Ste­wart both ran in their re­spec­tive age groups in the 100m and 200m at Mil­ton Keynes Open, com­pleted the shorter sprint in 11.7 and 15.6 and the longer one in 24.0 and 32.0 re­spec­tively.
