McCarthy’s third spot
CHILTERN Harriers U20 athlete James McCarthy came third in his age group at the Junior British Athletics One Mile Road Championships – clocking 4.21 mins.
The same weekend saw Ali Young finish as sixth woman in the Westminster Mile (5.38), Nick Marsh complete the Bupa London 10,0000 000 i in 42 42.16,16 and Tom Powell successfully tackle the 87.7km Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa in 11.31.37.
The previous weekend, Neil Brown (pictured) took part in his first ever marathon, completing the Arun River race in 5.08.32, while Mike Turney made a strong return to form in the Marlow Five with 32.18, while Barbara Ralph (36.53) finished first in her VW60 age category,
First Harrier home at the Prestwood 10k was Grant Whitaker in 42.46, followed by Kate Loach, who was third woman and first in the VW50 category. Steve Field was first VM60, while David Holmes clocked 1.55.24 in the Run Hackney Half Marathon. Father-and-son duo Allan and Andrew Stewart both ran in their respective age groups in the 100m and 200m at Milton Keynes Open, completed the shorter sprint in 11.7 and 15.6 and the longer one in 24.0 and 32.0 respectively.
