Waggoners hang onto bonus after collapse
Despite bright start to innings, Ballinger take just one point
ich MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Holmer Green Ballinger Waggoners 185 139
OPENER: Holmer Green batsman Jake Gumb on his way to losing his wicket to Ballinger Waggoners his feet, prospects looked good.
There were 99 runs on the board when Draper fell for 35, but the next three wickets added a measly three to the score and, at 102-5, Ballinger were in trouble, with only Jono Lacey and debutant Tom Petrie showing any fight in the lower order.
When they were out in quick
win succession, the only target left to pursue was 75 per cent of Holmer’s score for a bonus point – which they grabbed with their final run before being bowled out for 139.
Meanwhile, with the seconds chasing 207 to beat unbeaten league leaders Freith, ninth wicket pair Fin Clark and Miles Dugdale plundered 17 off the last over to do just that. Clark hit a four and a six from the first two balls before a single brought Dugdale on strike, and he squeezed another three, which left Clark needing the same from the last two balls.
A wide eased the pressure, and surrounded by fielders, he drove the penultimate ball down the ground for victory.
