Leaders Ley Hill continue their best start
MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Downley Ley Hill 204-7 205-3 LEADERS Ley Hill beat Downley on Saturday to not only preserve their 100 per cent record and stay top, but also ensure the first team’s best ever start to a season.
With Downley bat, Ley Hill’s
choosing to bowlers were tested throughout, with Richard Clarke taking 3-60 as their opponents made 204-7.
Ley Hill’s reply got off to the worst possible start when Pete Tuckett fell for a duck with just a single run on the board, but after that their batsmen took control.
Skipper Craig Peterson came in at three and settled things down before a sloppy shot saw him caught for 23, while Ollie Runswick continued his good form with a fine 67.
Sharp-shooter Lewis Thompson then rattled in 70 off 44 balls to set up Ley Hill for victory, and Clarke came in to score the final runs with an excellent knock of 31.
The seconds went down to local rivals Hawridge & Cholesbury, despite a valuable 47 from skipper Iain Stewart, who came in at three with none yet scored, and a majestic 62 from Sampath Dasanayake in his first appearance of the season.
A very young third XI also went down to Bourne End seconds, who were sporting enough to not let their fast bowlers tear holes in the teenage batting line up, and even allowed the youngsters to play some shots before bowling them out for 75.
