Stalwart Chamberlain uses his experience
KOOKABURRA MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Lacey Green Challoners 149 all out
150-8 VETERAN Howard Chamberlain used all his experience to help get Challoners back to winning ways in a last ball thriller at Lacey Green on Saturday.
Challoners elected to field first, and with the consistency of Heinz Richardson’s line and length frustrating the Lacey openers, his first scalp came in his fourth over, followed by an impressive stumping from Chris Price.
Darrin Charlton (3-28) then struck with two quick wickets, the second following a stunning catch by Saqib Ali in the slips, followed by a couple for Charlie Wood, and just when the Lacey tail started wagging, Wood (4-34) took two more to bowl them out for 149.
After Challoners lost skipper Lawrence Chamberlain early in their reply, Charlton and Price dug in with an impressive partnership before the latter went for 18, followed by Ali for a duck.
Charlton was joined by his brother, Sean, and they took the attack to the bowlers before Darrin (47) was bowled out just short of his half century, and Sean continued to strike the ball well until he was bowled for 38.
At 134-7 the game could have gone either way, and the score crept up to 148 before Paul Richards was caught at slip.
Syed Zaki came in and hit a nervy single to level the scores, but that was followed by two dot balls, meaning it was down to the last ball. With the Lacey fielders closing, Chamberlain held his nerve to hit the vital run for victory.
Meanwhile, in the same division, Prestwood went down by an agonising six runs to Wendover.
