Hearty Zippers win
CHALFONT ST GILES BC
CHALFONT St Giles Bowls Club helped raise almost £200 for charity through their annual game against the Zippers – featuring all players who have undergone open-heart surgery – on Saturday afternoon.
There were good wins on both sides, but Chalfont emerged as overall winners 98-79, with their top rink Maggy Read, Patrick Johnson and Norman Clare (26-8).
This was followed on Sunday by a Three Counties game against Wexham, in which Chalfont won three of the five rinks – including a top effort from John Pink, Liz Baldwin, Roger Darbourne and Rob Kirby – but lost 96-86 overall.
Earlier in the week, Aston Clinton were hammered 121-81 after Chalfont won on five of the six triples. It was a closer calculation to find the top rink, with more than one winning by 16 shots, but the award going to Flora Alderton, Bernard Bailey and John Anderson (24-8) after counting back to ends won.
Chalfont’s men went one better against Cippenham in the Bucks Plate, winning on all rinks for an overall 84-55 victory to come away with the maximum 14 points, with top rink honours going to Rob Kirby, Tony Batkins and Mike Alderton.
But the ladies lost to both Burnham in the Trindell and Amersham in the Burnham Plate, and a mixed friendly against Princes Risborough also ended in a 94-73 defeat, despite a top rink from Maureen Burbridge, Bernard Bailey and Allan Rumble.
