Cross in Heath double
GERRARDS CROSS BC
GERRARDS Cross Bowls Club hosted a county event for the first time in years when the Bucks Bowls Association used their green to entertain Sussex in the U25s Home Counties League.
Four Gerrards Cross youngsters were selected, with Chris Poole, Michael Gomme, George Reid and Tom McGuinness all performing well as Bucks scored an impressive 10-2 victory.
Some of them also featured in a dramatic eight-shot win for their club side against Iver Heath in the National Two Fours.
While John McGuinness’ rink (with George Reid, Neil Farnish and Kirk Smith) were two up at the end of their 21 ends, Alan Price’s rink were level at 18 all, but Price (with Tom McGuinness, David Ross and Richard Reid) took three on each of the last two ends to clinch victory.
Iver Heath were also the opponents in the Bucks Cup, where the Cross put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the quarter finals with an emphatic 12-2, with a highest winning rink coming from comprising Antony Parrott, David Ross and Richard Reid.
Elsewhere, Shirley Murrell, playing in her first match for the club, was part of the best rink, along with Hugh Russell and Maureen Merry, as the Cross went down narrowly 94-93 to Winsdor & Eton, while a highest winning rink from Joan Marshall, Hilary Wigglesworth and Angela Davies helped secure a 38-24 win over Bassetsbury Manor.
