Weekend of celebrations for church
AN HISTORIC church is celebrating its 800-year anniversary.
St Leonard’s Church in Chesham Bois, which was founded in 1215, began to celebrate this milestone anniversary on New Year’s Day and will continue throughout the year. Church member, Alison Greenhalgh, said: “The small historic church, nestled at the end of a lane surrounded by a pretty graveyard and meadow, will be beautifully decorated with many floral displays remembering key historical moments and people in the parish, from the Magna Carta to the present day.”
The weekend of Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 will see the first big celebrations when the church will be open for a flower festival. Visitors will be welcome from 10.30am until 5pm.
The church will also be open on Monday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm for a final opportunity to view the floral displays. Entrance is free of charge but donations are welcome.
