Week­end of cel­e­bra­tions for church

AN HIS­TORIC church is cel­e­brat­ing its 800-year an­niver­sary.

St Leonard’s Church in Che­sham Bois, which was founded in 1215, be­gan to cel­e­brate this mile­stone an­niver­sary on New Year’s Day and will con­tinue through­out the year. Church mem­ber, Alison Green­halgh, said: “The small his­toric church, nes­tled at the end of a lane sur­rounded by a pretty grave­yard and meadow, will be beau­ti­fully dec­o­rated with many flo­ral dis­plays re­mem­ber­ing key his­tor­i­cal mo­ments and peo­ple in the parish, from the Magna Carta to the present day.”

The week­end of Satur­day, June 6 and Sun­day, June 7 will see the first big cel­e­bra­tions when the church will be open for a flower fes­ti­val. Vis­i­tors will be wel­come from 10.30am un­til 5pm.

The church will also be open on Mon­day af­ter­noon from 2pm to 5pm for a fi­nal op­por­tu­nity to view the flo­ral dis­plays. En­trance is free of charge but dona­tions are wel­come.
