CHALFONT ST PETER CELEBRATES
Hundreds enjoy Chalfont St Peter annual event
AN ANNUAL parish day finished with an ‘emotional’ reception on Saturday as a priest celebrated 25 years in a village.
The Chalfont St Peter Parish Day, which took place on Austen wood Common from noon until 4pm, saw about 700 people attend throughout the day, followed by a special mass and reception for Father Martin McDonald at St Joseph’s church which started at 5.30pm.
Christine Hopson, chair of the events team at the church, said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We were very blessed with the weather. It was very, very sunny and warm.
“I would have said there was probably 700 throughout the course of the day.
She added: “I know because we did 400 sausages and burgers and the whole thing went.” Speaking about the mass afterwards Mrs Hopson said:
“It was a very emotional day for Father Martin.
“He spoke about how much he has enjoyed his time here at Chalfont St Peter parish.”
She added: “He said it’s been a very enjoyable and rewarding time he’s spent here in the parish and he has made some very good friends.”
Children and adults enjoyed entertainment such as drama group Through The Wardrobe and local musician Jon Kendell and a parish raffle.
Mrs Hopson said the day “Will have raised several thousand”, with the money going towards church refurbishments.
She added: “It was a very enjoyable day, from the smallest babies to the youngest parishioners.
“There was something for everybody.”
