Us­ing pedal power to make a change

A FAM­ILY bike ride, or­gan­ised by a lo­cal en­vi­ron­men­tal group to in­crease peo­ple’s en­vi­ron­men­tal aware­ness, took place on Sun­day, June7.

The Change4Chal­font fam­ily bike ride started at 2pm from the Bike Barn, Mar­ket Place, Chal­font St Peter, and went along coun­try roads be­fore a quick stop over at the Chiltern Open Air Mu­seum, Gore­lands Lane, Chal­font St Giles

Roland Col­li­cott, oth­er­wise known as the ‘Bike Doc­tor’, was one of the lead­ers of the ride.

He said: “I didn’t re­ally know how many peo­ple to ex­pect and we got 61 peo­ple, in­clud­ing 29 chil­dren, many of whom hadn’t rid­den any dis­tance on the road be­fore.

“At Change4Chal­font, we’d wanted to make peo­ple re­alise that rid­ing around the vil­lage is quite pos­si­ble, that the hills are quite do-able – many peo­ple en­joyed the chal­lenge – and that there are in­ter­est­ing and peace­ful routes avoid­ing
