EXPERIMENT: Dr Sean Mason at Holtspur School in Beaconsfield PUPILS arrived back from their half term break to a week of science experiments.

Children at Holtspur School in Beaconsfield took part in the event last week and tried out a variety of activities, including making Play-Doh and ice cream and creating bubble art.

They headed outside to send bottle rockets flying into the sky and watched a teacher let off a bubble bomb.

Youngsters also designed and built a den big enough to fit six children in.

The week ended with a special demonstration from Dr Sean Mason, a parent and scientist, who came in to talk to the children about DNA and show them how to extract it from strawberries. Chairman of governors Deirdre Smaje, who joined year three pupils to watch the experiment, said: “They were fascinated, and asked questions I didn’t know the answer to until I was 14 or 15.

“I was so impressed and want to thank Dr Mason for his hard work in preparing a real show stopper. A fitting finale to our science week.”
