Warning over tax call scam
PEOPLE are being urged to be vigilant following reports of a council tax scam going on in the Chiltern area.
On Thursday last week Chiltern District Council received a report from a Chesham resident who received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from the council stating that they were looking at the council tax charges of the property as they believed it may have been banded incorrectly.
The fraudster asked for debit card details and wanted to charge £68 to check.
The resident asked them to call back because they did not feel it was a legitimate call.
Chiltern District Council has confirmed that this is not something it would ever do and if other residents receive a similar telephone call, they should not to divulge personal or debit / credit card details.
